When it comes to shifting the narrative through the use of storytelling visuals, Josh Ceranic, a fourth-year humanities student at Florida State University, has always been one to captivate the eyes of any audience.
Making the decision to attend FSU in the spring of 2021, Ceranic, a native of Lakeland, has started to create a buzz in Tallahassee. Growing up, he became enamored with the art of storytelling. His passion paved the way, which later led to him exploring his creative endeavors.
At an early age, he realized he wasn’t your ordinary kid.
Ceranic would constantly find himself daydreaming in class about the abstract.
Motion films became a sense of escapism for him.
“I’ve always been very much in my head. I would fantasize in school and look away, look up at the ceiling, and just think about anything else other than what we were learning. I think some kids just have a knack for one thing or had interest in one thing or some other. That was always mine.”
At the age of 15, Ceranic became inspired by the Netflix documentary “Man on the Moon: Behind the Moonlight” featuring Jim Carrey. In the documentary, Carrey discussed the topic of manifestation, which reeled in Ceranic. Jumping straight into action, he went outside and began practicing his own manifestation.
“I literally went outside that night, and I like, put my arms up to the sky. And I like closed my eyes. It’s like a prayer, a silent meditation, I can’t even tell you what it was. I just kind of tried to accept that everything I ever wanted was possible. I just remember that moment.”
After discovering his passion for film, he was granted the opportunity to work alongside many well-known entertainers. He’s worked with clients such as The Weekend, Waka Flocka Flame, Post Malone, Offset, Quavo and a few local artists as well.
According to The Ledger, Ceranic has also been recognized at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France.
He’s gained a lot of recognition and Rick Jansen, his former high school film instructor, shared his thoughts on his award-winning film “David Isn’t Here Anymore.”
“It’s the first (major award) we’ve ever had from our film program. It was very exciting. It’s something we were hoping to do,” Jansen said. “It was not a complete surprise he was acknowledged; he’s very talented. You could tell he loves film and is willing to make his films above and beyond the average product.”
While at FSU, Ceranic has been able to partner with local businesses in the community. Also, he serves as the social media manager for the Palmer Munroe Teen Center. Ceranic says this has opened many doors for him, and he will soon be partnering with Myers Park.
Ceranic looks forward to connecting with local businesses and other entertainers.
